While you will have plenty of new construction options, you can get an even better deal on a home that is just a few years old and there is almost always inventory available.
Moseley is home to some excellent, family-friendly communities, most of which have very nice HOA-provided amenities like pools, tennis courts, clubhouses, and more.

In return for getting a value packed newer construction home, you are going to be further removed from Richmond proper. Same as Southern Midlothian, your nearest commercial bubble is Hull Street Road which has everything you need for daily living but perhaps not everything you may want. You will find yourself needing to travel outside of the area to experience more of the unique-one-off experiences. Hull Street Road is very congested, especially during rush hour.
